Need some help guys....blown heater core???

well the other night i was out driving...its really icy here and i ended up in a field off the road...and while trying to get out (before my friend towed me) i revved it way to high spinning the tires and it overheated pretty bad (still runs and drives fine) i did loose coolant, so i think a hose definently broke somewhere. Also afterwards when i turned my heater on, it started blowing fog/smoke/steam into the car, the symptoms of a heater core...could overheating cause the heater core to go. I just want to make sure before i spend the money and tear into the car. Its and 86 2.8 MPFI.

well go to advance , auto zone , napa , and others . most will do a free pressure check of your system . if you suspect heater core , lay old towels/rags under the passenger side dash . good luck . a press. ck. will find your leak .

Heater core is the only reason I have heard of coolant getting in the car.

I actually had a similar overheating problem recently. It turned out the fan on my radiator was not turning on when it was supposed too. my engine got so hot sitting in the driveway for 10min that when i came out smoke was coming out of it and when i popped the hood the coolant was over flowing. I took it to the shop and they set it up so the radiator fan just runs all the time and now, no over heating.

It could be that your car doesent have a radiator fan? But just throwing in my 0.2 cents

Another sure way to know is you will get coolant dripping onto the passengers side carpet, closer to the tranny hump. oh it makes a GOD DAMN mess!!!!
do the pressure test..if u got a leak u'll find it. Be sure the test is left on for a solid 10min...most techs/people underestimate the time factor....
