Anyone know about loss of coolant from boiling?
I replaced the rad cap and resevoir cap and it's boiling out somewhere...

Re: Boiling coolant?
either get a cooling system pressure tester or take it some where. the tester just pumps pressure into the system and then you look for the leak. its pretty simple and i dont know if you have a harbor freight tools around you but it is a good place to buy tools you dont use everyday.

turn on car pop your hood and watch. mine started coming out of the overflow tank cap. if it spewing out you might see signs on under side of hood. if your insulation is still on it maybe discolored even. let us know.

Re: Boiling coolant?
it's not actually dripping anywhere its just boiling from what i'm guessing is the rad cap, i can smell it under the hood but i cant see where from. i dont think it could boil out of anywhere else besides there. maybe it's running too hot?
Re: Boiling coolant?
I had the same problem. The distinct smell of coolant under the hood but no sign of a leak (that I could see). No coolant mixed anywhere it shouldn't be. Turns out there was a small crack in the block that I discovered when I tore it apart.
Highly unlikely in your case. I have to be the only person that unfortunate.
Does it overheat according to the guage?

ya i'm not sure if the guage is working... it never goes above like 200 according to the gauge. what is the thermostat supposed to open at? i'm thinking the next logical thing to do is replace the thermostat cuz it's real easy and only costs like 5 bucks. maybe should i put a colder opening thermostat?

Re: Boiling coolant?
the stat's from factory are 195 i think. when it was replaced if you dont ask for a different setting then you get that. i run a 180 with fans on toggle and my gauge never reads over 195. i am putting in fan switch that turns fans on at 200 and off at 185. works for me in fl. should work in az.

Re: Boiling coolant?
Are you loosing coolant?...by checking the overflow jug?....if so, how much in about a week assuming it is a every day driver. Definitely do a pressure test...keep the tester on as long as you can.....if you can smell it...it IS comming from somewhere....back of the intake....head...keep a close eye on it all
Jeffcj....i had the EXACT same problem w/my 305...after I pulled it out I tore it down for chits and giggles....and.....presto top o' the block was cracked..

Not to hi-jack this thread, but AMigs97IROCz's signature brought a tear to my eye.
"This goes out to all those who have put more into their cars than they do their relationships....Lets Ride!!! "
I just got rid of my woman (again). I tried to be upset, but for some reason I just didn't seem to care (long story and not thirdgen related). One thought that kept crossing my mind was "Hey, at least I'll have more money to spend on the 'maro now."
Ok..I'm done now.

i had this problem in my RS, switched the coolant, radiator cap and themorstat and still had the problem, ended up having a cracked hose at the back of the intake. this is an irritating problem. just do the cheapest thing first, and hope ur block si ok...i think my GTA might have a cracked block

Re: Boiling coolant?
ya so it turns out there was a little tiny hole in the radiator. I drove the car home last weekend like 450 miles each way, and i guess that long of a drive made the hole get bigger, so it started actually dripping. so i got a new radiator and so far it's workin good, except i still have to fix the temp gauge. i also managed to fry my MAF sensor on the trip too when i cleaned my K&N's
