Coolant leak, and temp guage always at 100?
So for a long time my 1991 trans am GTA has been leaking a tiny tiny amount of coolant under the throttle body out of a small hose. When I sniff the drip it smells like burnt coolant. I took the radiator cap off and it seemed to be stuck and not allowing any coolant to go back into the jug. I am going to get a new radiator cap tomorrow and see if that helps.
But also, my temperature gauge always seems to be at around 100 degrees. I don't pay attention to it as ofter as I should but I can never remember it moving. I am wondering where the temp sensor might be and if the coolant is leaking onto the sensor causing it to not read right.
The cap that is on there says its 15lbs but the only replacement ones I see for the 5.7L are 16lbs. I could have the wrong cap, I also don't know if the thermostat is has been changed/upgraded since I've only had the car for a couple months.
My radiator fans also come on as soon as I turn the ignition key to ON.. I don't know if this is normal or not.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I'm really no expert at this but if your fans are coming on by default then I'd suspect a short somewhere or an open circuit depending upon how it's wired. Obviously the fan(s) shouldn't come on until the engine is really warm, so maybe the temp sensor is faulty but as this feeds into the ECM, the engine would run in a default mode I think!?
Hope that helps.

So I looked under the car today and saw that only the passenger side fan turns on with the key in the ON position.
If anyone knows where I could get a wiring diagram for the fans going to the temp sensors and such that would be awesome. I'm not sure where the sensors are located so that would be nice.

Hi,
I have a service manual that gives the wiring diagrams, see attached :-)
Hope that helps.
