Bunch of cooling issues

I got my car just a short while back: less than a month ago. The car seemed to run at a fine temperature (despite not being able to idle when cold and just after starting). However recently it didnt seem to want to warm up. I first tried replacing the thermostat. But it still never seems to rise above 150 degrees. It also idles high, at 1250 RPM when it should be warm. It may just be a failed guage or sensor thats just giving me a wrong reading. I dont have a service manual yet (local Napa hasn't opened since new year) so I dont know where the temp sensor is.

Also, as a perhaps unrelated issue, the cooling fan is always running, whether the engine is warm or not. I have no idea what this could be so I was thinking of just running a manual fan switch into the dash. But I would rather it work the way it is supposed to. It has always seemed to run fine (despite these problems).

having the fans on all the time probably wont allow the engine to warm up to operating temperature. What kinda of fan system does it use?...duel electric?

its a single electric fan. i realize that the fan might keep the engine cool. But I'd assume the way I sometimes drive the car, it should heat up. It seemed to a few weeks ago.

Re: Bunch of cooling issues

these cars with single fans use a fan switch on the passanger side head above the knock sensor (they have the same electrical connection). However if it is staying on all the time, someone may have hardwired it right into the fuse box so as soon as the key is put on, the fans come on. This is a common bandaid for people who dont know how to properly fix a no fan condition. But yes if the fan is constantly on these motors wont heat up. Mine takes forever with no fan...and even mine doesnt get very hot, like 170 at best when driving hard. Only if it sit in traffic for a long long time will the gauge ever get very high. I guess this is what happens when you dont make horsepower ha.

Re: Bunch of cooling issues

If the sensor on the driver side and the passanger side back is the same (single wire slip on connection) then thats what it doesnt work. You should have a fan switch sensor on the passanger side, still a single wire but it connects using the same way as your knock sensor wire plugs onto the sensor. As far as why it messed up now i dont know. I know certain senors can be ruined by overheating but i cant answer why your fan is stuck on without seeing the car myself.
