Can I test it?
Can I test it?
Ok, would like to thank this board for being here as it resolved the bulk of my overheating problem with the search button and a little work.
SO I went to smog my 89 RS I just picked up for a song (In its condition) and the chick who sold it to me mentioned something about the car overheating. Drove it home on a hot day for over an hour drive with no problems. Then the smog tech had to stop the test cause the car was overheating (He looked pissed) so when I looked under the hood noticed the fan was not on.
I will insert that the GM cooling system works extremely well, except for the fan part. By the time I got the car home (About a mile) temps were below 220. Insert ends.
So I searched and turned on the AC and no fan action, I then figured it might be the fan, pulled it bench test and no worky worky, replaced fan motor reinstalled, turned on AC and viola... A $1000 camaro with a broke fan motor that is otherwise in better condition than almost any other I have seen around here.
So, what I been trying to do is get the car hot enough to see if either the relay or fan switch is broken, unfortunately it has been really cold today and looks like its going to be that way tomorrow so I have had no luck getting it back up to temp to see if the stupid thing turns on.
So, now that I have writen this long *** story to ask a simple question, is there a way to simply test the fan switch and relay without heating the car up? Cause the only other thing I can think of is a really long burnout!

Re: Can I test it?
Well, everything else works fine. Got nice and hot today so I took it out and the fan switched on after 220 (Thats hot?) guess I am going to invest in a 195/185 temp switch since I already have a 180 thermostat... Passed emissions, barely, maximum NOX permitted was 7.27, my output was 7.27. Smog dude says I should replace the cat and should be all good. I figure I might as well do a dual cat and dual exhaust with X pipe since I have to replace the cat anyway.
