Will a high air intake temp contribute to high engine temp?

Hello Everyone,

I have a newly installed speed density TPI setup with a cone K&N mounted directly to the plenum on my new chevy engine in my Jeep. My underhood temps are high already (monitored on my Palm Pilot or notebook) and wonder if higher summer intake temps will raise my engine operating temperature?

I've done some googling but all of the results deal with density, intercooling and leaner mixtures (yes, I know that leaner is hotter! but my TPI is megasquirted so I can control my mixture at all engine loads and rpm.). What about just higher engine temps?

Thanks for any ideas, Jim

It gets to be 105* here in the shade during the summer. My TPI engine sucks its air from one of the filters you speak of, under the dog house of a fullsize van. My engine NEVER runs over about 10* hotter than the thermostat. Often times it runs under the thermostats wide open point.

OK, this is encouraging. I've often wondered what difference it would make in engine cooling. All of those old carb'ed V8s never really had troubles sucking in underhood air... I had a Jag V12 and its air intakes were forward of the rad. It had terminal cooling troubles from the factory. I don't think the TPI in my Jeep could be worse! It sure does "suck" when the go pedal drops!
