Okay back to the drawing board with the fan.

My fan is running all the time. I replaced the sensor on the top of the motor by the TBI and the Thermostat housing. I've reconnected the wire that goes to the sensor in the passenger side head by the number 6 spark plug. I replaced the fan motor. I disconnected the jumping wire I had installed before doing all this work to keep the fan running constant. So it should work right? Nope, it just automatically comes on when the key is put in the on position. Is there a relay or something to that affect that I could be missing? Thanks in advance for the help guys.

wait what? your fan is running all the time so you replaced the fan motor? hmm okay. Yeah there is a relay that controls the fan, if you trace the wires off the fan you should run right into it, unless its been deleted just to run all the time. What wires did you jump? Im confused what you are saying. Another note, having the fan on all the time isn't necessarily a bad thing, me and 3 of my buddies are all running the fans on all the time, after all its summer.

Okay sorry about the confusion. I burned up the old fan motor because it was running all the time. Thats why I replaced that. When I traced the wires back there was this wire block that had a wire going from the battery, a thick one, a black one that says fusible link on it, and a red one thats smaller than the battery wire. If I disconnect the black wire, the fan never comes on, and I disconnect the small red wire the car won't start lol. I'm guessing that this is where the relay once was?

yeah its been rigged to be on all the time, relay is deleted. that small wire is for the starter lol.

If you want it to come on at a certain temp, you'll have to wire it up yourself, use a decent gauge wire (i used amp wire). I havent done this but im thinking if you ran a wire from the ign (on fuse box) to the fan switch (#6 cyl) then to the fan and then had the other wire as a ground, it SHOULD go on at the desired temp and turn off when the car is off. good luck

Don't forget to add a fan relay in there to handle the higher current or else you could blow fuses or worse melt the wires and maybe start a fire.

can I buy the replacement relay and wire it up? And if so with the wires that I told you about are those the ones I would wire it with? And why is the starter wire there?

Re: Okay back to the drawing board with the fan.

you could buy a relay and find a wiring diagrame and wire it up. The way i suggested is a lot easier/cheaper, just don't use skinny wire and you will be okay, you could even put a fusible link in for added insurance. Only thing if you run it off the ignition you might have to change the guages fuse to a 20A or at least I did.
