performance cooling fan

I have a 84 camaro that seems to have a cooling problem here are the stats of my engine.

- 4 barrel holly carb 750 cfm
- cast iron sbc 350 bored .30 over
- trw flat top pistons
- edelbrock aluminum intake
- mild crane cam
- older truck heads (no real info on these they were checked and cleaned by my father)
- new stock radiator, i beleave its a 2 core aluminum radiator
- cooling fan from a 1989 formula firebird (was told its the same cooling fan for my year camaro)
- we calculate this engine has about 450-500 hp has yet to be dynoed so this is purely a guess (dont know if this is relavent or not just trying to give all the information i can)
- automatic 700r4 tranny with overdrive

Ok just wanna state that when i bought this car it was a v6 with no cooling system at all, we had an 89 formula firebird as a donor car we used the radiator and cooling fan from the donor car. We then replaced the radiator with a brand new one of the same model (was told this radiator is used for my year camaro, firebird, and even some vets)

Finaly the problem at hand, it takes awhile for the car to reach proper running temp with the fan off but after i turn and leave the cooling fan on (set to a switch in the cabon of the car) the cars temp never goes down just kinda stays at the temp i turned the fan on at, and thats stop and go traffic as far as high way even with the fan on, it very slowly raises in temp until the point of overheating id say about 45 min of driveing on the highway i would be in the danger zone.

so at this point im just looking for an aftermarket performance cooling fan for around 300.00 the more over kill the better imo, unless some one can tell me a diffrent route to take it seems the cooling fan is my last hope.

Oh! and btw the thermastat has been taken out, with it in the fan couldnt even stop me from over heating in stop and go traffic i have replaced the radiator since then and plan on putting it back in for a test with the new radiator ( i beleave the thermastat is a 180)

If any more info is needed just ask but i tryed my best to state everything any help would be great or some advice on high rpm cooling fans.

Re: performance cooling fan

Your first step, for a street car should be to pull the 2 core radiator and put in a 4 core.
If it was a drag strip car, put a fan in.
See how much that helps. Then go to an upgraded flex-lite or be cool fan set up.
You may be able to take the fans off a 4th gen. Don't know how much the flow.

Last once you do get it to quit overheating, you will want a temp switch for the fans. It's not good to run them constantly.

Re: performance cooling fan

its a street car atm but as soon as i can replace the heads and fix this coolng problem i have a strange feeling ill never leave the track.

as far as the 4 core goes ive already wasted close to 400.00 on them at 2 different radiator shops gave them the exact measurements year and make of my car and they never fit (had to pull teeth just to get half my money back)

so far i have found a 2950 CFM 16 x 16 permacool cooling fan for 130.00 after doing some reading i found out the fan im useing now only pushes about 1400 CFM if that, so thats the best i can find atm but any help will greatly be apresheated. (i dont plan on useing the switch on my fan forever was kinda a quick fix to get it going)
