final cooling problem solved
final cooling problem solved
1986 Iroc 305/auto TPI. S after purchasing this car it was running hot 230+ and the fan was on single pole switch. So after flushing radiator (which also is clear and has good flow) changing thermostat to 180 and 2 new hoses it cooled down around town and heated up still on the highway at high rpm (go figure). So now after all the forum reading about an Air Dam I checked and it has a 2 piece 4" air dam that seams its from a berlinetta. I replaced it with the Large 8" Iroc style purchased on E-Bay from a dealer 43.00 w/shipping and BINGO. Now cooling is at 170-190 highway and same around town with some assistance from the electric fan when needed. So as far as I can tell its the way the system was intended to cool from the factory. The AIRDAM was the final answer and the most important. Thanks to all on these forums for your advice and help. I'd be happy to answer and questions to help others...dice55@aol.com

The air dam is the black skirt that is under the front nose of your car, that directs air thru the radiator. Without the proper one, third gens over heat very easily. My car temp runs between 170-180 all the time.
220-225 is just to freakin' hot if you ask me.

4" air dam? I can't imagine that doing anything for these cars. Nice to see an easy cooling solution.

Could probably cut one out of duct sheet metal for less than ten bucks, scuff it up and paint it flat black, then rivet it on to an existing airdam that is either damaged or too short. Roof flashing might work too.
Maybe I just need to go to Home Depot less and Autozone more.
