New Jeg's electric fan control kit
Here's the story:
My brand new Jeg's electric fan control kit didn't start the fan up at all, and I had to shut the engine down at 220 degrees before it overheated.
It only worked once when I first started the engine for break-in and hasn't worked since.
This is literally the 4th fan control kit I've had on the car, all different brands, and I can't seem to find one that is the least bit reliable. This one is supposed to turn the fan on at 200 degrees, off at 185 degrees when using a 195 degree T-stat.....like I have.
So I disconnected the wire from the switch and grounded the wire - I heard the relay click and the fan started right up....
-It's gotta be a bad fan switch right???
-Is there such a thing as a reiiable fan switch that will consistantly turn the fan on and off when it's supposed to??
This is really getting frustrating.....
BTW..This is a Non-ECM controlled fan system...

BTW, the temp gage was checked with a mechanical temp gage. The engine IS actually exceeding the fan switch setting of 200 degrees to turn the fan on. I watched engine temps exceed 230 degrees and it didn't turn on.
I let the car cool down, removed the control wire to the switch and grounded it with the key in the "run" position. Fan came on immediately.

get a non-contact laser thermometer
check the temp at the "sensor switch" confirm it ios seeing the requirued temp. another question is how did you seal the threads on the switch?
too much sealant can block the "grounding" required to work.

I used the Flex-a-lite kit from Summit Racing:

And I haven't had any problems with it at all - it's adjustable, can be rigged with always on and always off switches in the cabin, and it always seems to work at the temp I set it for.

camaronewb:
problem with yours is the probe, and that there is a potential for leaks. that and temp is based off what is in your hose vs. head, or intake

camaronewbie: That's a nice kit, but more than I really need I think. I doubt I need variable fan control. I've used the probe type sensors before, and they last for a little while and fail too.

Re: New Jeg's electric fan control kit
Will your fan run with the ignition on when you ground the wire going to the switch?? If the fan doesn't run, then you have a bad relay, loose wire, or bad fan motor.
I'm looking at the painless adjustable fan control, part # 30112 - Anyone using that one??
I kinda like it because it uses the 12V ignition power to the adjustment box with a separate relay instead of having it all in one box, like I've gotten before..
I found the others burn up the contacts because they hook into the 10 gauge higher amperage wire and they burn out...I.E. - like the "Perma-cool" ones
