To run the fan constantly or not...
I read the sticky first and saw the dual mode relay thing, but the thing is my fan doesnt turn on at all... i ran without a thermostat for a while and it worked ok, super cool, but it didnt overheat... now i have a thermostat, i changed the fan switch, checked the relay and it was all good, but the fan doesnt come on at all... not even at 234, it goes to 260 and starts to boil the coolant and such... so how would i get the fan to run at all times?

I wouldn't want my fans to run all the time. And I had a similar problem. Have you checked the wiring on the fans?(or fan) My problem was that a short piece of wiring leading to my far about an inch or two long shorted out. So I simply made it so both my fans work off the same relay.
Do you have 2 fans or one? Because that will help me help you.

Re: To run the fan constantly or not...
yeah is there? because i figured the coldest it would get is 185 because my thermostat is stock temp and has no holes so it would go a little lower than 195...
Re: To run the fan constantly or not...
The fans were never meant to run constant so they will burn up quicker and at speed it does nothing.
Jump the fan and see if it works. Make sure you get the pos on the pos side though. That will burn up a stock or stock replacement fan. (some aftermarket you reverse pos/neg to change direction)
You can do that with the plug directly off the fan, off the relay, ect to find your problem. Or you can start going thru and checking for continuity until you find a bad wire. Could be a bad ground too.

Re: To run the fan constantly or not...
Well not only will running the fans run constantly burn them up as they are not designed to run constantly but also a motor thats running too cool is pretty bad for a motor too. The only way to maintain a temperature withing the appropriate tem range is with a fan that switches on and off and the right thermostat.

and another question when we checked to see if the fan works (which it does...) on the relay does that mean the relay is good as well? or should i just get a new relay as well?

Re: To run the fan constantly or not...
170 degrees is too cool for a stock street engine, use a
195 thermostat and a fan switch of about 210 degrees.
Make sure there is no thread tape on the fan thermostat
as that has to ground to the block to complete the circuit.

Re: To run the fan constantly or not...
Well trying to pick a optimal engin operating temperature you have to concider where you are if you live in the south were winters are hot and summers are hotter you might be best off shooting for 170 or if you lived in say alaska where its cold year round maby a bit higher like the stock 200. If you live in a place where its cold in the winter and hot in the summer i like to try and shoot for 180 degrees. You could probably get a v8 fan switch to work in a v8 but if it says for v8s only it would probably be easiest to get one for use on the v6. Another thing is if you pick a 180 stat and the jet switch u described the thermostat will likely be opening and closeing constantly with the fan which could lead to premature failure so you need to pick parts that will work in harmony.
