HOW TO CHANGE THE WATER HOUSING ON A 1990 CAMARO

When you are changing the water housing on a 1990 camaro,do you have to apply that rubber sealing liquid around the thermostat or just set it in place and then just put the liquid on the water housing gasket only

The thermostat itself doesn't need any sealant on it, just drop it in. Different people have different opinions on sealing the gasket, but I've always worked a thin coating of silicone onto both sides of the gasket by rubbing between mby thumb and fingers, then put it back together. Make sure to clean off all the old gasket material from the thermostat housing and the intake before putting it back together.

I've never used sealant on the gasket and never had a problem. I use the fel pro gaskets that have a rubber ridge in the middle.
