Odd Cooling System Leak
My 86 Trans AM with a 305 TPI has developed a cooling system leak that drips somewhere off the back of the engine, and the bottom of the torque converter cover on the transmission. It is definately antifreeze leaking. As yet I have not been able to locate the source off the leak. My first thought is the heater core, but there is no coolant inside of the car. All of the hoses radiator, t-stat, were replaced a couple of years back. Here is the question. Do these engines have a component on the rear of the engine that is prone to leaks? The car has 28K miles, has miminal wear, and has not been overheated. Thanks for any ideas.

Re: Odd Cooling System Leak
Your headgasket could be leaking externally and not internally (my dodge shadow does it). But with 28k that's not likely. Check the heater core where the hoses connect for cracks.

Re: Odd Cooling System Leak
Mine has rusty freeze plugs and drips at the same area, I think it's leaking above the starter and then running down and dripping off of the TC cover. It even does it when the engine is stone cold. I did put some Bars-Leaks in it and it seemed to help (temporarily).

Re: Odd Cooling System Leak
my waterpump gasket on the driverside was leaking and the coolant was running down the block, along the oilpan rail and dripping my oil filter and bellhousing. Check that

Re: Odd Cooling System Leak
We found it. It is leaking between the intake manifold and the head on the driver's side. GM used silicone to seal the intake, instead of spending a few pennys on a intake gasket, and it just gave out. We are trying to get ready for the Fbodygathering in three weeks, so I took the car to a garage. Working 70 hours a week, I just don't have the time to get into a big repair project right now. Thanks for all of your suggestions.
