Heater core welding question

I just got a new heater core and I notice that the tubes that attach to it are not very secure. I was wondering if I can get away with welding the tubes onto the heater core instead of relying on the pressed metal to hold them in place.

Re: Heater core welding question

it all depends if its aluminum or not if its all metal you should be able to git away with it but if some thing is aluminum you mite burn threw it and if the metal is thin you mite do the same but if your takin your time you should be ok for aluminum i would use a sertin kind of welder for aluminum ok

its most likely copper that plated. You can solder it.

A low temp solder or braze would suffice.

They're supposed to be able to move so you can position them better I thought.I could be off base here though.

Re: Heater core welding question

The heater core ended up being missed packaged. So I had to get another one and the pipes were welded on the new one. ALWAYS check your parts good before modifying them

Re: Heater core welding question

i see you took some good pics, but i cant get an idea of actual size. can you tell me the measurements of the heater and the space it fits into?
i am looking into just using an electric heater but i have never taken mine out although i have paid someone to replace it a few years back.
