so im thinking of trying to free up some horse power...so i was goin to get an electric water pump...how much do they actually free up? and do they perform as well as mechanical ones? like will i over heat easier? and are they worth the money and hassle if they do free up hp or mpg? thanks

Re: electric water pump?
I use on my daily driver and it works great.
Since I changed over to electric water pump and electric fans I have picked up some milage. I broke right into 26 MPG. I averaged 26.375 mpg on one tank driving the speed limit in virginia at about 65mph. I also know its saving me fuel because when I drove through TN, where the speed limit is 70mph most of the way and 75 in some parts I tried to keep moving at least 75mph the entire time and do 80+ when I could. Doing that before the change over I would get around 22mpg or less, that tank of gas got me nearly 24mpg.
It would have to free up power because my water pump comitment is 70 watts or just shy of 1/10 horse power. I don't see how a regular water pump could come any where near that.
As far as getting too hot, if any thing it was because I pulled the straight belt driven fan.
I have no way to measure horse power (mythical pony that lives at 5252RPMs), but since fuel economy is up so much for just these 2 mods then I would have to say yes it does allow more of the engine power that is produced to go to the transmission and not else where.
