coolant not circulating
I have a 1984 z-28 H.O I have a carbrated 350. I have resently put a summit aluminum radiator new water pump and new thermostat. i have tried to change the themostat 3 different times. the coolant isnt circulating. i have no heater core. and I can take the plugs out on top of the intake with the motor running and it pumps real good Like a 3ft stream so i know the pump is doing its thing.

Re: coolant not circulating
removed heater hoses is probably the problem, without
the coolant circulating past the thermostat,it will not
open until coolant gets REAL hot-put in a bypass hose
and thermostat should work normally, drilling a hole
(about 1/4")in the thermostat flange so some coolant
can circulate past and heat the thermostat might work
too.

Re: coolant not circulating
does he mean like a hose running from the top the water to the intake where the heater hose goes?

Re: coolant not circulating
they are plugged with brass plugs on the in intake the heater core is gone. I removed the whole box and mounted a piece on aluminum with my ignition box on top.

Re: coolant not circulating
"bypass" is basicly a hose from the small fitting on the
water pump to one of the fittings on the front of the
intake manifold(the fittings that normally would
connect to the heater) Try the drilled thermostat 1st
as that is"cleaner" and less fuss.

Re: coolant not circulating
You will want a by pass, just the thermostat buy its self can not flow 37gpm.
A thermostat with holes drilled in it (aka a high flow) thermostat wont do the job eathere.
Drilling the thermo or installing a high flow will work great for low speed driving. Once you get on the high way you could still over heat like crazy.
