Where is the engine temp sensor?

I need some help finding where the engine temp sensor is. I bought a new gauge and hooked it up to what I think Is the fan switch/sensor because it wasnt really picking up temp, and when I hooked it up to that, my oil gauge doesnt work anymore. what I hooked it up to was Im not sure what its called actually, maybe the intake manifold? I know its the silver thing on top of the engine and i screwed it into the bottom where a similar looking sensor was that had a plug in it with two wires coming off.

The engine temp (It actually measures the temperature of the coolant running through the block, not the engine itself) sensor is located towards the front of the engine on the drivers side of the block. Look for it It's kinda hard to miss. It's one of those off by itself things that stand out and has a 1 wire lead hooked to it.

It's hard to picture exactly what you attempted plugging this sensotr into to make your oil pressure gauge stop working, but the connector for that is located at the top of the engine block on the back drivers side. I believe it is a 2 wire blade connector. When I first got my 85 Z28, the douchebag PO had unplugged it and my oil pressure gauge was constantly pegged at 90 and I had to go searching for it.

Re: Where is the engine temp sensor?

Alright this is what im thinking. Im pretty sure what I plugger the new temp gauge into is the Engine Air sensor located underneather the mainfold. it had two wires with a plug on the end of it. And about two inches in front of that angled towards the drivers side head is a thing with one single wire around it which is black, but I followed the wire a little way and it plugs into a wire that is a single green wire. This one is much smaller than the other sensors I have found so far. the others were 3/4 and this one looks about six sizes smaller. Is this the engine temp sensor or what? It looks like its pretty tricky to get to so I want to know before I attempt. Im just not seeing where this sensor is then if thats not it.

Is that the sensor you plugged into into? (Dead cneter in pic can be seen sticking out the bottom of the plenum).

If so, that is the IAT or Incoming Air Temperature sensor and you should immidiately unplug whatever you hooked into it and reconnect the proper harness.

I have a picture of where the engine temp sensor is located but It's in my photobucket which I can't access from this work computer. In about 2 hours I will show you.

Yea thats what it was. I did it last night without thinking to look it up first and after I hooked it up I realized it was the Air Temp sensor. I would really appreciate it if you could show me the pic of where the engine temp sensor is
