camaro overheating issues.
Having some issues with my camaro overheating and had a few questions.
Its been about 60-80F here lately, what temp is normal for the car to run at? It's a 350 TBI, econo swirly heads.
The car has been running at about 220F and higher unless I turn the heater on (Pulling this temp from a datalogger running as I drive and not the gauge). I pulled the radiator, waterpump, and thermostat out and gave it a good flushing until clean water ran out everywhere, put it all back together with a new 180F thermostat and im still running about 220. at times its crept up towards 260 at which point I shut down.
The radiator fan is currently wired up to IGN so its always running, Will this be a problem at highway speeds?
Also the car currently does not have an air dam. I'm currently shopping around for one (anybody have a spare laying around? I'm in ohio) to put on it but had some questions about mounting. How exactly does the air dam mount up against the car? is it just the one piece unit I see on ebay?
here is what im working with under the car:

Also here is the datalog which shows slow steady increase in temp. I turned the heater on when it hit 215F and it started to come back down

Re: camaro overheating issues.
you have no air dam, thats a big problem
check ebay for new ones, or the classifieds for used ones, they pop up from time to time.
the dam bolts to the bottom of the radiator support, my firebird has a 3pc dam, i think the camaros had 1 pc

Re: camaro overheating issues.
Yea Camaros have a one piece dam. I just bought one on ebay about a month ago for my 89. Both of my camaros run just under 220 so Im gonna guess thats about normal temp. These cars run hotter than most cars. But yea get an air dam.

Re: camaro overheating issues.
Mine the oe bolts would always come loose and fall out and the dam would drag, id have to pull over, and remove it tll i got home. i solved the prob by just taking regular bolts, some washers and lock nuts, to this day it has not been an issue, and it bolts up to the holes on the radiator support under the car, pretty much flush with the radiator, so if u dont have some, just get some standard nuts and bolts at home depo, lowes, whatever, they dont have to be grade 8 or anything. if u need a pic of what it looks like up close just let me know, i prob have a pic of my car or i can always snap a quick one or two for ya, enjoy.

Re: camaro overheating issues.
I have a 86 and air dam is gone, I do have what GM calls a air dam extension which I believe the lower air dam bolts to. The diagram from gm is not clear. Could you post a picture of what you have. I posted a question in the forum "I'm Confused" however no one has replied. Thanks
