coolant sensor/sending unit confusion

coolant sensor/sending unit confusion
ive done some searchin but hasnt helped much.
ive diagnosed my overheatin problem...the fan is not coming on at the designated temperature. just not sure why. the fan motor is a month old, relay is brand new today. it comes on with the a/c tho
wat im confused about is which sensor(and location on a lb9 305 tpi) sends the signal to turn the fan on at the designated temp (230* or watever it exactly is)
