Re: ac vents not letting air out

Can you hear like a vacuam leak when you move your controls? IF you can take your controls out there is a valve with a bunch of vacuam lines hooked to it it needs replaced it controls your vent doors. Hope this helps

also make sure the 2 hardlines in the engine bay are hooked up; i made that mistake and could never figure out why my vents wouldn't move anymore....

Sorry, I can't recall. Does the cage install so that the blades turn in a specific direction? If so, it may be pulling instead of pushing air.

Re: ac vents not letting air out

Mine will only turn one way.Its blowing but not much its like my 92 silverado blows as much on low, as this camaro blows on high. I wonder if there is a vent door semi closed somewhere I can see the vent door open under the blower motor when I turn ac on.

Re: ac vents not letting air out

If there's a vac leak in the system, the default setting is defrost. Doesn't sound like the case here. I'd remove the blower motor, give it a once over, and test it. You may have a bad motor or a loose cage. Moreover, don't expect the motor to blow as hard as a new car. Won't happen regardless of what you do.

BTW, did you have to transfer the cage to the new motor?

Re: ac vents not letting air out

The motor came out of a 90 s10 blazer, I think almost all are a swap. The motor runs fine I meant to say I can watch it turn from underneath the dash when I turn ac on and the flapper door opens to suck more air.Maybe its doing all it can but that is very little air pressure. Thanks for all the helpful info.

Re: ac vents not letting air out

Yes it is switching speeds but not blowing a strong volume of air out of the vents or defroster. Is there a vent door somewhere that could be semi closed? And James I didnt change the cage from other blower , I could not see how to take it off without breaking it.

For what little air is moving, does it blow from different areas if switched from the control ?
There could just be massive amount of dirt/debris collected on the evaporator coil screen that is blocking the air from getting to the ducts.

And James I didnt change the cage from other blower
As long as the cage wheel was the same size and the blades pitched about the same, that shouldn't matter.

The controls move the air to defrost, heat and vent. Yes the s10 fan was same. Ok this evaporator coil that could be the culprit where is it located and how do I get to it?

Re: ac vents not letting air out

is there air flow the same (weak) in the heat mode, too? if not, then how would the airflow differ from heat vs. a/c or defrost? doesn't it all come across the evap coil? i've heard a possible cause of this could be a leak in the ductwork behind the dash... if it does split somewhere for heat vs. a/c, then i'd be looking at the evap with debris as mentioned, or vacuum issues. just my .02...

See attached image. The top of the blower box can be removed. It's a few 9/32 hex screws and maybe a 10mm bolt holding it to the firewall.

Re: ac vents not letting air out

alright so im having the same problem with my 88 rs v6, the vacuum lines are good, its just not blowing out of the vents really at all, it has a new heater core, so ac and heat work, but i dont feel anything coming out, were would the hard lines be located under the hood, i think that it may be the problem, the lady i bought the car from was replacing the heater core, and she said that she had not fully connected it all back together, pics would also help

What is the actual name of the part?
Ive been looking on autozone.com because air only blows out the top "defrost" vents, and wont change to any other vent. And someone stated that if it only blows from there that needs replaced..
PLEASE HELP.

If your only getting air out of the defrost vents, you've got a vacuum problem.

Re: ac vents not letting air out

theres 2 vacuum hard lines in the engine bay near the ac box. one is the inlet for the ac controls, the other is an outlet that goes to the heater diverter valve. if the inlet doesnt get vacuum the controls stay on the default setting which is defrost.

if that line is hooked up correctly, then you have a vacuum leak somewhere between the engine bay and the back of the ac controls.

Re: ac vents not letting air out

Would you happen to have a picture of the inlet and outlet?

Theres just so many cables under my hood from when i got the car, My mechanic said he thinks its because they went from tuned port to Carbs.

Point being that its hard to tell whats what, and im still learning when it comes to all this.

not one at work. should be the only 2 plastic vacuum lines coming out of the firewall with the ac wiring harness.

the one with the elbow is the inlet. the straight one is for the diverter valve.

Re: ac vents not letting air out

I had to replace my fan motor when this happened to me. The fan motor I had in the car still worked but not real strong. So i got a new one and it blew like crazy! Windows up and hair blowing! Very strong.Maybe something in the fan motor went out making it insufficient air,

if it blows only out of the defroster its not a fan problem, its a vacuum problem.

Would his 82 even have a diverter valve? I'm guessing it's carbed, and I thought those didnt have one, just the other line. True for my 85 at least.

i found the piece needed to fix the vacume leak but it still will not change air flow from the defroster to the vents. Does anyone have anymore ideas on what could cause this? Any help is appreciated

Dust and dirt can collect in the condenser and restrict the airflow. So you have to access it and clean it. I would like to know the best way to access it so I can clean mine.

is anybody going to talk about the condenser plugging up with lint and dirt? Newer cars have air filters, these older vehicle just suck air thru this small radiator. The more blocked it gets, the less air movement. Hot air as well as air travels thru the same area.
