I've done a couple of the mods listed in the tech articles, such as the throttle body bypass, but one I did a couple of days ago has me stumped. I replaced the thermostat with a Jeg's 180 degree, and the fan switch with a Jet that's supposed to start the primary fan at 190 and off at 185. Problem is, when I started up the T/A to check it for leaks and proper operation, I kept checking the upper rad hose to see when the thermostat was opening, and when it did, I looked at the temp gauge on the dash, and it read 100. this continued for 4-5 minutes, then the gauge shot up to 260, but the fan stayed off. If I clicked on the A/C, for a couple of seconds, the fan stayed on for about 2 minutes and shut off....with the gauge still reading 260. Does the the car need to be driven after a mod like this for the CPU to "relearn" how to cool the engine, or did I possibly get some bad parts?

sounds like yer guage sensor is shot.. where exactly did this jet sensor go anyway?

 

I put it where the stock one was...between the #'s 1 & 3 spark plugs on the cylinder head.

 

there's your issue. thats the guage sensor. the one you NEED to replace is on te passenger side between 6 and 8 beneath the exhaust manifold, its a royal pita to get to, put the sensor you removed back into the drivers side head, and put the new one in the passenger side head.

At least you know the fan switch works now. The gauge will shoot up like that when you turn the key to start the engine as well.

Just fyi... even with the gauge sending unit back where it should be and the (new) fan switch where it should be, the gauge will read just barely off the '100°' mark (actually 180°) before the fan switch closes and runs the fan. It's not a gauge issue, that's just how it is.

 

Hey. Thanks you guys. I got the sensors in the correct places (now) and it's working well. Temp gauge registers as it did before, and the fan comes on at an indicated 180 and off at 160.
