Why won't my fans turn off once they come on?

Why won't my fans turn off once they come on?

My '88 TPI has a real mystery here. The fans will come on at the right temp, but they don't shut off - they just keep running (all wiring is stock). This started last month and we cannot figure it out. The relay was replaced and has been tested thoroughly. Is this a known quirk on these cars that has a fix to it?

Sounds to me that your stock cooling fan switch is dieing. Its located on the passenger side head between cyl 6 & 8.

There is a way to test this switch, but I've never tested mine before. If you want to know how to test it I would suggest you PM-ing TGO member "Deadbird" and he should have some ideas on what your problem could be(switch) and how to test it.

Good Luck!
