Strange electric water pump issue
I have a profrom water pump on my car. It started to leak so I swapped on a new pump unit. After I pulled the old pump off and for no reason what so ever I touched the pump to power to see it spin for a second.
Upon doing that I discovered it spun backwards, as in the oppisite direction of what would be most efficient for the spiral cut impeler blades.
I have had my proform on for over 2 years and never really had any problems with it cooling until it started leaking. I stuck my spare proform pump in the sink and found that they pump a ton of water.
Last summer I accidently ordered another proform pump when I was clicking items in my summit wish list to my shopping cart so I have 2 on hand. That second pump spins backwards too. I didn't bother to send back the extra pump, just incase I needed one.
So I am going to switch polarity, spin the pump the correct direction and see what happens.

Re: Strange electric water pump issue
Well if they're both spinning the same way I doubt somehow that its really an issue, and that they were actually designed to work that way.

Re: Strange electric water pump issue
its a dc motor, the rotation is changed by swapping the wires. How are you determining the "correct" polarity on the pump? are the wires marked, or red and black?
the issue with spinning the motor the wrong way, which ever way the pump is not designed to spin in, is that the impeller nut can be spun off by the rotation of the pump motor. I assume there is a single nut holding the impellar on? havent looked personally.

Re: Strange electric water pump issue
kind of like a skill saw or table saw... the nut screws on so when the blade spins the nut actually wil get tighter rather then looser... i to have a problem... i disconnected all the wires in my car and am trying to re wire everything better but i cant seem to get the coolant flowing?? why would this be ?
