I am trying to get my car working properly, and one of the problems is the coolant temp senor is not working properly. Since I am not using the CC carb, distributor, or emission senors, I trimmed alot of the "extra" wires and sensors, but i think i may have cut the temp sensor wire. Anyone have a link or picture of the coolant temp senor for a 86 carb trans am? also, would it hurt anything to run a new wire/ sensor to the temp gauge? Has anyone successfully done this?

also, my dad has been trying to get a sensor to work, but i dont know if its the right one. Its a metal sensor with a male circluar fitting, which goes into a female, "slide onto it" connector. I believe it was originally on the driver side head. Any info that could help would be awesome.

The temp sensor for the guage on my car has a flat blade style connection. My car had an engine swap before I got it and the temp sensor was not even installed. I got the stock sensor and installed it in my intake manifold and used the stock wire. The other sensor you mention, if it is for cooling and not a knock sensor, I believe is the coolant fan switch which mounts in the passenger head between plugs 6 and 8. It is a thermal switch that turns the cooling fan on and off.
