Re: a/c removal help

I'm not sure if it helps. On my '85 there's duel belts from the crankshaft to the power steering and then one including that and the AC compressor. If yours is the same, you could simply remove the belt that goes to the compressor.

You can also theoretically remove the smog pump and replace what you have with a shorter belt. Mine uses a multi ribbed belt to the alt. Don't know the brand but the part number for that one is 435K5 or 5PK1105.

You can usually get a used AC delete box here or on Ebay from $60- $110 depending if it includes the motor etc. The proper way of doing it is replacing everything from the inside controller to the box, but most people just replace the box.

Re: a/c removal help

Because cars could be ordered without air conditioning, and the accessories had their own belts(meaning, there wasn't one belt that had to cover everything like on a serpentine drive), there's actually a factory-correct belt available for non-a/c cars. Delete pullies didn't exist then, so cars without a/c simply had nothing in that position.

So go to the auto parts store and have them look-up the belt for a non-a/c car with your engine and model year.

There was also a much smaller mounting bracket available for the power steering pump only, when a/c wasn't ordered. It really completed the look by changing-out that big bracket that supported both the compressor and power steering pump. I'm pretty sure that bracket has long-since been discontinued, but if you like visiting junkyards regularly, you might eventually find one, then you can clean and paint it and get rid of that big, now-half-empty bracket your car has, and it'll look like it was built that way.
