what do you think

Iroc was having overheating issues changed rad ,stat, noticed fan not coming on changed out relays, and did a direct ground on fan temp switch so fan would run when engine turned on.
Ran no problem like this for 3 weeks temp guage read 190,sometimes shot up to 220 dont know why but today service engine light came on temp guage went to 230 and I had very little power from throttle response.
I would give it the gas and it was as if I was coasting.
I stopped the car openned the hood and saw that my coolant overflow container was above full..........where as before it was at min level.
After cooling down I restarted engine ran rough then smoothened itself out and coolant container was back down to min and service engine light went out..........anyone know what might be going on here

Try check it with another gage, the stock one may be off. I had my pegged at 260.

thanks I did check the gauge and it checks out,I also checked the the belt looks fine but I think Ill replace it seeing that I have owned the car for seven years and havent changed it and who knows when it was last installed.
I also decided to check the anti freeze level in the rad and found that the cap was loose, not all the way on..........strange I have driven the car for three weeks with no over heating problems until two days ago is it possible it came loose on its own or wait a minute I had a wheel alignment done two days ago and it started over heating when I left the shop.....................NAW couldnt possibly be
Im going to take it for a spin see what happens
