Question about 89 cooling fan switch.
Just wondering if I bought a Hypertech power chip P/N 128922 that turns the electric fans on at 160, do I need to replace my thermostat and coolant fan switch also? I'm kind of confused about how to go about this.

Re: Question about 89 cooling fan switch.
Depends, if your fans are computer controlled then no. But I think one of yours is driven by the computer and the other is run by the switch in the block. If thats the case, that chip wont effect the fan thats run by the switch at all.
Also, most engines need around 180* to operate efficiently, and some fuel injection systems need about that temp to run right. Turning the fan on at 160* will take longer for the motor to reach operating temps.

Re: Question about 89 cooling fan switch.
The Hypertech Thermomaster chip.....It will turn your primary fan (driver side) on at 176°, off at 166°.
The secondary fan (passenger fan) will have no effect. It will turn on at the stock 235°F. (Probably never)
Hypertech says you're supposed to run a 160° thermostat with the chip. But I see no problem running a 180° thermostat. What's the difference between a 160° thermostat and the coolant temperature at 180° vs a 180° thermostat with the car sitting at 180°? Nothing. Yeah, the fan will run constantly once it turns on with a 180° thermostat. But chances are the car will never get down low enough to off the fan even with a 160° thermostat. (Remember once you're past 40 mph, the fans will be off regardless of settings. So this info is only important to slower than 40 mph speeds)
Turning on the air conditioning will in most cases turn the secondary fan on. Could buy a fan switch and put it in if you want the secondary fan on at an earlier temp. But in IL weather, I don't think it's needed.
