Tiny blower???????

When my 86 T/A's temp gets very hot, this little blower under the battery comes on and blows air (through a hose) on the carb. Sometimes it will run for 20-30 mins. Does anyone know why this is? Prevent vaporlock?? Some kind of california emissions???

Yes. Apparently the fan was installed to prevent fuel boil in the carb. You don't see many of them.

I'd enjoy seeing a better pic, but here's one as well as some info:

Re: Tiny blower???????

I can't really get a pic of the blower itself, it's hidden pretty good under the right front fender under the battery. As soon as I get a chance, I'll take some pics of the hose that runs to the carb. I use to think it was the electric fan that was running after I shut the car off, but it was this noisy blower. This came from the factory because my dad bought it brand new and he said he never installed it. Must be rare, because every mechanic I talk to has never seen one.
