Overheated Big Block Chevy

I've got a 82 Trans Am w/ a 468, Weiand Stealth intake, manifold filler neck, 160 thermostat, Jeg's 50 gpm electric water pump, 4 roll aluminum radiator w/ dual electric Hi output fans. This thing get "HOT" still in the garage. I've tried getting all the air out of the system with filling the radiator and the manifold with the filler neck. I'm using water first than wasting this Water Wetter addictive. I can start the engine, run for 5 - 10 minute and engine gets hot. The last time the upper radiator hose blew off the manifold filler neck at 170 deg.. I hope by put some RTV on the filler neck and tighten the radiator hose, I hope the thermostat will open and will be it. Have anyone had this problem before? or what can be my problem?

Re: Overheated Big Block Chevy

I've heard of high volume water pumps, push so hard on the thermostat that it will not open. Try and drill some hole in your thermostat to relieve the pressure. I've seen it work

Have you checked your amp draw? I use a similar set up on mine, and found that I really needed an alternator and wiring that was up to the task to make the components work to their potential.

Have the same problem, have a BBC street machine, 185 thermostat, temp will gradually climb, stopping who knows where. electric water pump, 2 10" fans mounted in shroud pulling good air through radiator. Very frustrated.
