Radiator fan issue

I was wondering, I have been researching this for a few hours now and my one radiator fan does not kick on, I tried with ac and everything else in there and it will not kick on, could this be the motor on the radiator fan itself or one of the switches I have heard about?

Re: Radiator fan issue

It's also a 350 TPI and usually runs at around 210-220, maybe this is normal that this fan on the passenger side doesn't spin at all until it maybe gets wayyyyyy too hot, it just seems abnormal to me that it doesn't spin.

Re: Radiator fan issue

If I'm not mistaken that fan shouldn't kick in until about 225-230. GM engineered these cars to run that hot for a couple reasons like more thorough combustion and better compression, trouble is it reduces power a bit and reduces engine life as well. But yes if its stock then its normal.

Re: Radiator fan issue

If you have the stock single fan setup, it may not come on as soon as you think it should, but should come on when you turn on the AC. If it has been rewired by a previous owner its hard to say. You can check out the article in the technical articles section to see how the fan was originally set up. Or you can start testing at the fan, then the relay, then the fan switch. If you have dual fans it's a whole different article with a few extra things thrown in.

Re: Radiator fan issue

Since it's a TPI 350 car, I'm assuming it has dual fans. The primary fan should be computer controlled, coming on at about 210ish I believe. The secondary fan should be activated by the pass head fan switch at a higher temp like 230ish.

BUT - The secondary fan should always come on with the A/C as I understand it, so you might look into this further. I'm not a TPI expert, so I'm not 100% sure - but it's my understanding from reading here. Maybe the relay for the secondary fan is bad, or the fan motor itself. You could test the fan motor by swapping connectors between the primary and secondary, and see if the opposite fan comes on when the temp gets up to 220 (or just apply 12v directly to the secondary fan motor).
