Re: dumb question?

nope. but youll have a name brand part.. it will only last 5 years tops.. i prefer stock ones.. or electric, cause with electric you can turn off your car, and cycle the electric fans and water pump cool it down faster after long drives.

Re: dumb question?

my edelbrock pump is still going strong 12yrs after i
installed it-these pumps are made in the USA and the
bearing and seals are the same as used in the original
GM pumps,so they could easily last 20yrs or more
These pumps have an oversized impeller and pump a
little more water than the originals, but i did not notice
any difference in cooling-might help in a marginal
situation though.

Re: dumb question?

I have heard nothing but good things about the edelbrock pumps, im waiting for my pump to go out and to get one.

Electric water pumps have short lives and should be avoided with street cars.

To get full effect of high flow pumps also use a high flow stat. they claim the pump helps stop crud buildup on the sides of your water ports due to the volume and pressure of water going.

you should feel no HP difference with a water pump change. Unless it is electric, then it will have a little less engine drag. if I was going to put an electric on, then id carry a spare. along witha spare relay for it too.

Re: dumb question?

You can have more drag at times with an electric pump, due to the inefficiencies in the mechanical->electrical->mechanical conversion processes.

A Meziere HD street pump is rated for something like 3500+ hours of continuous use. Running it for 2 hours a day every day, that's almost 5 years.
