Heating / Air problem here!

Issues/problems:
- While driving, heat is not all that hot until I stop. Car reaches higher temps while idle so I presume this is why it gets hotter but I do not know the cause of barely any heat while driving

- The heater vent located near the feet always seems to be on......when I switch to A/C while I have the other switch on "off" it blows cool air.....no matter what I do my car is constantly blowing heat/air (which ever one I have it set on) - It's blowing heat/air equivalent to setting 1 for fan speed.

- While driving a few weeks back, I had the heat on max then all of the sudden smoke started to come out of my vents and my car acted as though it wanted to die (sputtering/missing). I thought my heater core blew but there was no liquid on my carpet or any other signs of it blowing.... this is where the problem of my heat/air being on started after this.

Sounds like it's time for a heater core. What thermostat are you running? a 160 will not allow enough heat to notice in the winter, even a 180 could be too cool depending on what your winters are like.

You're trying to say 160 degree air isn't hot? Do you know how hot Dunkin Donuts serves their coffee?

I think the thermostat I am running is 160.... actually I think my car runs at about 140.... It never goes past the first quarter mark on my thermostat gauge on the dash.

Also, would my heater core be the problem with my heat or air being constantly on? I think in the mayhem of the smoke and stuff, some wires were singed causing more vents being opened. I put on windshield defrost vent and the floor vents are on as well ?!

Re: Heating / Air problem here!

the smoke i bet is the blower motor on the way out.a 160 t-stat is to low for good heat, and the vent selector is vacuum operated.the temp selector is cable operated.change the stat and blower and switch .go from there.the blower on all the time should be the fan switch.

if the heater core was bad you would smell antifreeze in the car,and have a leak.
