Dash display says "COOLANT" but coolant fine

OK I have "COOLANT" displayed on my dash ('88 Trans Am GTA) and the Coolant level seems fine in the rad and in the expansion bottle. Where is the level sensor as I suspect this is dirty/loose/broken? Or is there another common cause of this message? Other than that the coolant is low, which it doesn't seem to be.

Thanks guys

Look about mid way down the tank on the right side.
