Re: water pump replacement

If it is street driven or daily driver I do not recomend an electric pump. where are you looking for a pump? our pumps are unique and usually arent called long or short. Usually they are classified as serpentine belt pumps, or reverse direction pumps. Like an edlebrock pump part # 8881 Or Summit # EDL-8881. Any local parts store should have a NEW pump for you to get. Around 40 dollars.

Re: water pump replacement

'89 5.0 engines use a reverse rotation "long"water pump
Most '69-'87 use standard rotation"long" pump,the
"short"pump is used on most '68 earlier and has a
smaller bearing.
Stock '88 up reverse rotation pumps have a different
pulley bolt pattern than '87 earlier pumps, but
apparently some aftermarket pumps have hubs with
both bolt patterns, and using the wrong rotation pump
has caused some cooling problems on here-pumps
pump water badly(but in the same direction)when
turning wrong rotation Some on here have reported
good results using electric water pumps for street
and even highway use,but it usually is not a good
idea.

Re: water pump replacement

Yeah, just go down to a parts store and pick up a stock pump. There should only be one "reverse rotation" type pump for the serpentine belt equipped V8's.
