Curious Question

I can start my car and let it heat up to 220 just fine, but when im actualy driving I dont even have to turn the fan on and the temp drops to 160. When I come to a stop it will heat up and my fan cools it down just fine.

180 thermo.

Is there something wrong with it being so cold?

Re: Curious Question

It could be where you are located (Cold?) Could be that your thermostat is stuck open (Overcooling.) And it also could be that your temp gauge is off by 15 or 20 degrees. (Not un-heard of in our cars.)

Re: Curious Question

Yea, the weather has been bouncing from 30-50 degrees. And I also kind of noticed the gauge seems a little off when the fan comes on.

Thanks, wanted to make sure nothing to really worry about. Cant wait till summer

Re: Curious Question

I used a 160* thermostat for about a year when I lived in Utah. When it got cold, down into the 40's and lower, the car would almost never heat up above the first hashmark on the temp gauge when I was on the freeway or highways. Stop and go it would warm up a bit but the heater was never really more than luke-warm. Switched to a 180* thermnostat and I like it much better.

Re: Curious Question

I had over heating problems last year; thermo stuck closed and no air dam. I put in a 160 and it would do the same as yours. I put in a 180 thermo before the cold came; so well see how it goes when the weather gets better. Ive driven it a couple times in the warmest weather so far(about 50 degree) and no signs of over heating. I probably stick with my 180 too. thanks
