Fan switch location change questions
Okay, 87 Camaro, originally carbed 305, single cooling fan. A few years ago I dropped a 1978 350 in it and removed all computer controlled systems. I couldn't get the plug out of the passenger side head to put the fan switch in so I rigged the fan to come on via toggle. Now, I'm dropping a built 327 in and want to do it right this time so I have a few questions.
1. I want the car to run a little cooler so I want a 200 deg. on: 185 deg off fan switch. Can I get a part number?
2. I have an Edelbrock Performer EPS intake, can I move the fan switch up to near the thermostat housing? There are 3 holes near the housing, one will be for heater hose, one for the fan switch, and the other will be plugged. My thoughts is since it's basically just a "ground" plug for the system, it should work, but I just want to be sure.
3. Will the system run properly if I move the fan switch to the intake if I'm running a 180 deg. thermostat?
4. For removing the toggle and implementing the fan switch: Currently, I have a relay: Power - fused line from battery; Switch - toggle; Ground - Body ground; Acc. - fan. Will this work? Power - fused line from battery; Switch - ignition hot wire; Ground - fan switch; Acc. - fan.
Thanks in advance to all that help!!

Re: Fan switch location change questions
Easiest thing to do is grab a seperate fan controller and install that. Much better than the factory-type switches in the head IMO, easy to wire, most are adjustable - they probe the radiator so you don't have to locate anything on the engine. I'm running a Flex-a-lite controller, it's the best $100 I ever spent!

Re: Fan switch location change questions
I'd like to stick with stock fan switch type. If I can move it to the intake, cool. If I have to keep it in the head, no big deal. I have everything I need to make it work except the actual fan switch as I can't seem to find a part number for a lower temp switch. Every thread I've read on here seems to have bad links for the different temp fan switches.

Thanks! No worries on finding the part number for the fan switch. I got too antsy and bought the hypertech switch that closes at 200 deg and opens at 185.

Re: Fan switch location change questions
Good luck - I wasted cash on one of those once as well - it lasted 45 days before it stopped working. At least the autozone crap lasted 60 days. That's why I ultimately went with a seperate fan controller 4 years ago and never looked back. I never have issue with my Flex-a-lite!
