one fan spins the other don't
so my 89 gta with dual fan setup is having problems. when my temp reaches 220 and my fans kick on the driver side does not spin and the passanger side is working. anyone know what i should look for? is this common?

Test the one that won't spin by hot wiring it. If it doesn't spin even then? The motor is out. Cheep fix. Buy a new fan motor at Autozon/Carquest/NAPA/which ever you shop.

Sorta.
One is for the AC, regardless of engine temp. But IIRC, both can be turned on by the ECM, regardless of AC or not.

Normally the driver side goes on first, connected to power by the computer. The other one is either operated by the fan switch or the AC. Maybe the plugs are switched? What happens while the car is running when you turn on the AC?

To check fan, remove the connecting plug and note which side has the solid black wire going to it and which has the black with red or pink stripe going to it. Hook the pin the black one went to to ground and the other to 12 volts like off the battery with a jumper wire. Now it either works or not, but try turning on the AC first
