Overheating

Overheating
I have a 92 350 TPI. Recently replaced the EGR Valve and the fuel injectors to solve a drivability problem. Put everything back together and the car was running much better.
Now the car is overheating. This only happens under load, whether driving 30 or 80. Whats interesting is that if I pull over and just idle, the engine temp drops quickly. I have verified that the car is in fact overheating. The reserve tank is bulbling.
A couple things....I lost a little antifreeze when I had the TB off and I didn't top it off. Also, the car seems to hold each gear a little longer than it should prior to shifting. Could this be a timing issue? I'm checking the air dam tonight, but realize, the car didn't overheat when it was running poorly prior to my repair work. Now it does. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ken

Re: Overheating
Did you touch the timing at all when repairing the engine?
About the trans shifting: Sounds like you got the TV cable mis-adjusted, try re-setting it and see if that fixes the shifting problem.
Obviously top off the coolant, and check to see if the air dam got damaged, like you said.

No. I didn't adjust the timing but it was running so bad that it could have been out and I not know it. I did fiddle with the throttle cable assembly though to get to the injectors. Is there a thread that explains the adjustment process?
I topped off the coolant but still got into trouble on the way home. It's weird because it cools down at idle.

Re: Overheating
That usually point to the air-dam. My car used to overheat when driving, but cool just fine when just idling in park or at stop lights. Turns out the PO removed the air-dam. I replaced it and now my car hasn't overheated at all yet.

Re: Overheating
I looked under the front of the car and couldn't tell if I hav an air dam or not, however, this problem is new....and I didn't remove or add anything from under the front fascia.

If you're unsure, try to get a picture and I can tell you if it is missing or not. Does anyone else drive your car? It could have gotten torn off on a parking curb or something like that.

Look at this thread, post #7, the second pic: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fabr...ml#post4904409
You can easily see the air dam under the front of a Camaro. About 4 inches high, 3ft long, made of plastic. Mounts directly undert the radiator. If you don't have one, or yours is damaged ... that is your problem.

Re: Overheating
I looked at your link....I don't know what I'm looking at. The area where he placed the vintage Z/28 emblem? Anyhow, the front end of my car looks just like that.
I believe I've solved my problem, however. I mentioned that the car was shifting late, and you had mentioned I should look at the TV cable, so I did. I found the factory "set-up" instructions on this site and followed them. The car shifts silky smooth now. I believe that the late shifts and possibly not shifting into overdrive at all was causing the engine to run at high RPMs and causing the over heating. That would also explain why the car cooled at stops. Anyhow, after the set up, the car is not overheating this evening.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Overheating
I got mine from the junkyard. Even though I drive a Trans am, I used one off of a camaro because it was bigger, and I figured I'de give it a try and it works very well.
No problem about the TV cable, always glad I can help!

You can check ebay, www.thirdgenranch.com, www.hawksthirdgenparts.com, www.moderndaymuscle.com as well - but as mentioned, your best deal will be at the local JY if you can get one there.
