Cooling Switch Issues

I'm having the typical cooling problems with my single fan 89 IROC-Z. I have replaced the water pump, radiator, thermostat, the cooling fan relay on the firewall and the cooling fan switch on the passenger side head. My switch wiring connector crumbled when I reattached it and now the fan doesn't even come on when I turn on the A/C. I can drive it as long as I stay out of stop and go traffic. I've had no luck trying to find a new connector. Does anyone know where I can find one? I may buy the Hypertech unit as it has the connector and comes on at a lower temp. Any suggestions?

Re: Cooling Switch Issues

if the autoparts doesnt have one then your best bet is going to be a junk yard. possibly from some place online.

Re: Cooling Switch Issues

Thanks, I'll try to hit a junkyard this weekend. I was hoping to buy a new connector but after searching the internet I haven't been able to find one.

Re: Cooling Switch Issues

Camaronewbie always posts a Dorman part # for this connector when this question comes up. Should be readily available at your basic parts store or at least they could get you one. Think it's the same as a knock sensor connector. I'll try and search around to see if I can find the part #
Found it check out post#5 on this thread

But on here now it's part#85102 on page 30

Re: Cooling Switch Issues

See what I get for working late - had my answer stolen! Ha ha!

Until you can get the part - simply ground the wire from the dead connector anywhere metal - this will make the fan run always with key on - at least it'll keep you cool until you get it fixed.

Re: Cooling Switch Issues

Thanks guys..The info is exactly what I was looking for. I've ordered one of these (Dorman 85140) from www.rockauto.com for $10.82 (includes shipping) and hopefully be able to go on to the next issue...cruise control not working. And this thing only has 59K miles on it.
Thanks again for the help!
