Little Help Please
Ok got the 86 Camaro 2.8L V6 Manual Transmission. No matter what I do it still over heats when stoped.
I have done the list below.
>180 Thermostat now went to the 160 Thermostat
> Thermostat housing
>New water pump
>Radiator
>Upper/Lower Radiator hoses
>Heater core(went out in winter)
>New intake manifold gasket (had a leak)
>Checked Fan it does not come on till 230
Some please lead me in a direction
FYI: Oil Pressure Is Like 35-45
And Temp I have seen goes as high as 240 @ a stop light

Re: Little Help Please
Are you losing antifreeze but can't find a leak anywhere? Do you have White smoke coming out exhaust?
If you answered yes to any of the above, you might have a blown head gasket.
OR
Are you sure your fan is blowing in the right direction? (a "puller" fan, which is in between rad and motor should suck back and blow on motor) or maybe your fan isn't strong enough. The bearings go bad in a lot of the electric fans and cause them to spin slower than they are supposed to.
Answer some of the questions I asked you and I'll keep thinking. Hope one of us figures it out.

Re: Little Help Please
No problem. That's what this site is here for.
A little bit of white smoke at start up is fine AS LONG AS. It's a little bit of oil. After so many miles the valve seals start to crap out and that'll give you some white smoke. What you have to do is let the car run and stand back at your exhaust smelling it periodically. See if it smells like burning oil, or if it smells really sweet (antifreeze). Also, if you have true dual exhaust, see which pipe the smoke comes out of. That will tell you which side to start looking at.
Are you sure you are actually overheating though? The gauges on our models aren't exactly the greatest.

Re: Little Help Please
Try starting your car with the rad cap off. Let it sit there and idle. Document how long it takes to get up to 220. Is it 10 minutes, 5 minutes, etc? Once up to temp, look in your radiator and see if the coolant level is low or if you see bubbles in there. Let me know.
NOTE: make sure to put rad cap on BEFORE shutting off the car.
And after you shut it off, is your upper hose hard?

I picked up an 86 z28 with a new engine that overheated on the guy. mechanics and others couldnt solve the heat issues. After monkeying around with it I noticied the bottom rad hose was pinched and barely letting water in. I got a new one and installed it and the overheating issues disappeared.
