1984 Z28 Small Block 400

I just bought a 1984 Z28 W/ SB400. Should I upgrade fan or radiator? I heard they have cooling problems.

Re: 1984 Z28 Small Block 400

the 400s have a problem when ppl put other SBC heads on them and forget to dril out the steam holes since the 400 has simiesd bores they need to have the steam hole drilled out, if thats good there shouldnt be a problem the cars themselves run warm but if the fans working like it suposed to you should be fine

Good to know. Thanks. The guy also threw in the origional 305 with the heads on it. How do I tell if the heads on the 400 are for that block? Is it stamped on the front?

you can check the casting numbers, youd hafta pull a valve cover off to check that, altho they could be any SBC head and theyll work as long as the vent was drilled out. imo drive it and watch the temp, if it doesnt overheat dont worry about it

I think that's good to go with to be safe. The fan was and is out of the car when I bought it so, half of the work is already done.
