Where is a single fans ground wire supposed to connect?

Hi, I have the issue where my fans ground wire is cut and so I have it grounded directly to the body of the car. This means my fans are always on with the turn of a key... Where is the ground supposed to go? I think I have been told hooked to the sensor on the block passenger side which is most accessible from underneath. Wrong? I have looked at the sensor which i just mentioned and its rusted and no wire is connected to it. Please help and I'm a noob so make it easy to understand please!

Thanks

I know the computer grounds one or both of them and the AC fan is grounded by the computer. I ran mine to a toggle.

I didn't think the ground mattered. It's the 12v+ that is turned on/off by the relay.

Now, the relay has a ground that is turned on/off by the fan switch, but the actual fan itself is controlled by the power side and not the ground side (at least it was in my 1992 TBI car with single fan).

OOPS, Do you have a single or double fan system? Look in the technical articles section under electrical. There are descriptions there of how both fan systems are supposed to work

Re: Where is a single fans ground wire supposed to connect?

Ok, so I have a black wire (not sure where it is coming from because I didn't take a good look yet, but it is grounded and the fans work with the key. It's obvious that it should go hooked to a switch (fan switch)??? to be able to sense when it needs to be turned on. So which sensor is on the passenger side block which is most accessible from underneath? Where is this black ground supposed to go is my question. Sorry i'm not mechanically inclined so any help would be great

The ground can be grounded anywhere on the metal of the car. The fan switch should have a green with white stripe wire that goes to the fan relay located over by the brake booster in front of the driver. The relay has four wires going to it. A big fat red wire that is 12 volts coming from the battery, the aforementioned green wire, a small brown or some color wire that gets 12 volts when the key is turned on, and a fat black with red stripe wire that sends 12 volts to the fan positive when the fan switch grounds the green wire. If the fan switch is not connected, but that green wire is grounded somewhere the fan will run anytime the key is on. Is there something you want to change? And normally your car would come with dual fans, perhaps why it is set to always run now
