EQUIS Temp gauge

I just put in an EQUIS temp gauge, electric one.
When I put the wire onto the sender, the sender kind of " bent " a lil. The plastic piece also moved a lil bit. I didn't force it or over tighten it at all, it did this as I was threading a nut onto the sender, no pressure at all on it!!
Am I screwed as far as the sender is concerned?? This was the only one they have!!

My battery is dead, charging now so I have no idea if I messed it up!!!

Thanks for any words!!!

( edit )
If someone wants pics, I can MMS from my Iphone to an email or cell pohone.
I can't get pics to load & I can't get into my photobucket!!

I work at a parts store and I've sold a few of these. From what i can tell is that the sensor will still work even if its a bit bent, its the mechanical gauges that are more likely to suffer from that issue. Those do come with a warranty, so if you have any doubt take it back to the store and have them warranty it for you.

Hope this helps,

Derock

Re: EQUIS Temp gauge

Thanks for the reply derockz28!!

The brass adapter went into the block fine. When I put the sender stud thing in, I tightened it hand tight, then started to thread the first nut on- then it moved like it was on an axis or something like that. I was using only my fingers to put the nut on!! I went ahead & finished the assembly.
I can move the " stud " sender thing with *very* light pressure. I'm not going to mess with that thing any more!!
Battery still charging!!..

I have the receipt but not the packaging. If this doesn't work, I'll see if I can exchange it for a manual unit. Can't get to it til Wednesday afternoon!!..

Re: EQUIS Temp gauge

I believe you have to thread one nut on to the sensor, then the wire with a ring terminal, then another nut. If thats the case, put a wrench on the nut closest to the sensor, then tighten the other nut. If you just tighten the nut to the sensor I think you will rip the terminal out of the sensor, but its been a minute since I've seen one out of the package.

Worse comes to worse warranty it out and get the mechanical version, I assume you have the 7000 series, the ones with the white face? The mechanical one is more straight forward; thread it in, install the gauge, find a ground and positive for the light, then hit the pavement. Might I ask where you got this gauge?

Re: EQUIS Temp gauge

Black face, short sweep.
The threaded part of the sender ( stud thing ) is like you described--
Nut, ring with wire, star washer, nut.

My thoughts exactly-- if it's not going to work, exchange it for mechanical.
I got it at O'Reilys.

Re: EQUIS Temp gauge

They warrented the gauge, gave me another 1 & checked the sender b4 I left the store. That was loose, but not as bad as the 1st. I wasn't real comfortable with that, but.... Put it in, filled the rad, &...drip drip drip...etc so I tried to tighten the fittings a lil more...
drip...drip...etc... any tighter it would strip, so --
I went back with everything except the sender, which was keeping the coolant from pouring out.I told them what was going on, & I bought a mechanical gauge. They told me to go ahead & swap the other sender & bring it back for refund!!

Mechanical went in fine, no leaks. Went for a short drive & watched as the temp went to 190-195 & stayed there. I checked the fan & it was working fine too.

All in all, I should save up & find out what's up with the gauges in the dash, which is exactly what I will be doing, but at least for now I can see if she starts get too hot as compared to not knowing til it's too late!!
