Normal cooling system operation and temps.
It's a 305 TPI.
My pressure cap is 16. 50/50 mix, 195 thermostat.
While driving, my car is around 198*, according to my scantool. Temp gauge works, but isn't 100% accurate. Sitting, it climbs above 200.
I did replace my fan switch because the old one literally just fell apart. I've been told my secondary fan should come on around 234-8*.
Can someone explain to me what normal op. temperatures and fan cycles should be on this? I will probably have to sit at the DMV tomorrow morning and want to make sure it is not going to overheat while waiting in line.

So is it normal for it to climb higher than that while sitting?

Re: Normal cooling system operation and temps.
When you are driving, cooling will be at it's best. When sitting, it takes some time for the temp to build until the fan(s) come on. True, the stock secondary fan comes on at 238*. I recently changed to a secondary switch that comes on at 211* and the fans come on earlier when in traffic. Switch is Standard Motor Products part# TS85.
Another impotant thing to check is the rad fins. I assumed that since the A/C condenser fins were clean, that the rad would also be clean. When I removed the rad I was surprised to see that there were 2 circles, the exact shape of the fans, completely stuffed with fluff and grass. Make sure the rad is clean.

Sweet, I like the idea of the lower temp. switch. My rad is new, condenser looks acceptable. No debri, just old looking.
I'm assuming the primary fan is on the left and the secondary on the right (when facing motor)?
I'm going to start my car and let it sit to see if both fans come on. I'm really just mortified at the idea of doing heads again with my daily driver.

Sorry for double post. Ran my car, drive w/ chocks and e-brake and it would go up to about 228, fan kicked on and back down to 218. Everything seems to be okay
