Heater Core Shut Off Valve... GOOD/BAD Idea?
Ok so i have to change the heater core on my 92 RS 3.1L. I just had to bypass the heater core hose piping that runs along the frame there bc it rusted through. So i bypassed the piping with all hose.
Now that i have to tear most of that apart again i was thinking that maybe i could put a ball valve in the system under the hood to shut all coolant flow going into the heater core. So i can remove all chances of heat coming into the car during the summer.
My question is, would this hurt the engine in any way? I know that the coolant comes out of the heater core and into the bypass valve or blend valve. and seems to go torwards the throttle body. So any help would be greatly appreciated. This will only be shut off during the summer.

1992 car should already have a heater bypass valve installed - does your car have A/C?

Yes the car has a/c. And the heater bypass valve. But does that valve completely cutoff flow to the heTer core? I dont know how it does. Bc the main incoming hose to the heater core has a hose coming from the bypass valve and the water pump. So the flow from the water pump would always be flowing into the core correct? And it seems that the bypass valve has a line going into the heater core, the return from the HC. And then a hose to the throttle body? Can someone explain how it works?

The heater controls send a vacuum out to the heater bypass - as long as there's a vacuum source working (from heater controls), then the valve closes and the hot coolant does not flow through the heater core.
