Alright im fairly new to all this, Grew up around older chevy trucks and just got into camaros. I just recently got an 85 with a built 383 stroker, bored 30 over, roller rocker heads, built tranny with shift kit, etc. the guy who built this car put prob a 6, 7 inch hood scoop on it i guess you could say (not the rear facing cowl hood but forward facing) but it looks like he made it out of housing sididng. I want to get rid of it and do either a flat or cowl hood. is this going to significantly chage anything. i use this car as a daily/ weekend drive around town in

 

The scope should be for the induction system(carb?), shouldn't effect the cooling system. Post a picture of your ride.

 

thanks, the carb is not sealed to it or anything. i thing the guy did it for looks. and another noob question what is air filter on the head for?

 

 

Thats a valve cover breather, common on open element set ups.
That car screams late 80s mods.

 

He said its all new. says theres maybe 1000 on the motor and tranny but u cant really trust people. he had it built for the strip so the interior is completely stripped. no plastics or anything. so thats my next project.

Oh, just the draglite wheels, wide rear tires, & hood scope. Nothing wrong with it if you like it. It just reminds me of what people were doing to their cars back then.

 

Haha no I don't. I have since replaced the tires with a set of street tires that are not as wide. My plans are to restore everything besides motor and tranny pretty much back to stock. That's why my op was asking if it would mess anything up to get rid of the hood scope. Thank you for the info though. Like I said this was all new to me

 

Goodmark makes a steel cowl replacement hood, much stronger and better fitting than fiberglass ones, I needed a 4" to clear my 385....
