Temperture Gauge On Dash Not Working

Temperture Gauge On Dash Not Working
Ok i just got a iroc a few days ago,the guy I bought it from says the car doesn't overheat and he has the fan hooked up to a toggle switch and says he just rides with it on all the time but i would still like to know what my temp is while driving .... what could be causing the temp hand to not read?... Please help guys, I want to get this fixed asap......

check the wiring too. it may just be disconnected or singed. - driver side of engine bay, green wire.

the coolant temp sending unit will be on the driver side head, between the #1 and #3 cylinders. should have a single green wire hook up to it. id figure out whats up with the fans and fix that. leaving them hooked up to a toggle switch is not a good idea.
