my 87 iroc dual fans wont stop running....
i asked and ive searched to no avail. i have an 87 iroc ,5.7 tpi, vin 8, dual fans. both fans come on when ign is on with or w/out engine running. new relays, coolant temp sensor and just bought a coolant fan switch part# sw502. i know that 87 is the 1st yr of 5.7 in camaros and was told there are differences in wiring in 87 than of later years. ok, ill get to the point. i went to install the new fan switch, located between #6 and #8 cylinders when i noticed...nothing there but a plug. one of those with the square hole in it. is mine supposed to have a switch there or is there something special about my car? someone please tell me what to do.

I believe the switch is between cylinders 1&3
On your dual fan setup the first fan is controlled by the pcm so check the wire from the pcm to the relay for a short to ground. The second fan usually just goes from the switch in the head, to a relay (near the brake booster), to the fan. So also check that for a short to ground.

Also in '88 they used an AC switch so if the AC was turned on the cooling fan would be also. Even though you have an 87 I would still check to see if you have that as well if the other items don't solve your problem. Who knows, maybe late '87 cars got the AC switches also.

its possible someone swapped out head to a set that had the plug there instead of the temp switch, or it wasnt a stock dual fan. in the dual fan set ups the primary fan is controlled strickly by the ecm and the seconary is controlled by the temp switch and the ac.
it could be that they just rigged both fans to run when the key is on by wiring in both fans to the relay and grounding out the temp switch wire somewhere. its a fairly common thing to find in out cars.
