Fan relays grounded?
Fan relays grounded?
89 Iroc 305 TPI dual fans, AC blah blah etc...
I just realized that both fans have been running all the time sinc eI got this thing (a long time ago
) but I must not have paid attention. I replaced the sensor on RH rear of the motor (pain in the butt) and also the other 2 since they are old and the wires to all 3 were brittle so I rewired them with new connectors.
No change to the fans so I looked deeper and low and behold I find where someone has ties the green/wht wires off both fan relays and grounded it. This explains why the fans are always running but I cant seem to figure out why not when the added ground is removed?
It appears to be grounding the same green wire returning to the ECM?

Re: Fan relays grounded?
This thread has some related info as the ECM trigger is grounded making fans run all the time

Re: Fan relays grounded?
There are endless threads on dual fan electrical advice. That relay in the pic is the driver's side fan relay that's controlled by the ECM, and yes, grounding the green wire will run that fan contantly.
Your relay for the pass side fan is on the pass side fender. It's controlled by that switch you put in the pass side head. The connector on that switch should have continuity to the green ground trigger wire at the relay on the fender.
It looks like someone sliced up the wires to get the car going short term.
