Custom Air Damp

I would like to some post of custom/homemade air damps. The stock front air damp is okay but doesnt keep the cool enough. Enough like the fan work perfectly Ive had plenty of fun with that(sad). I want to made a air damp out of aluminium that encloses the front chin spoiler almost, that trap the air against the radiator. I done have a clear pic but im sure one of you guys attempted or have done something like this.

OEM air dam works great for me and everyone else. Your problem lies elsewhere.

Re: Custom Air Damp

Unless it is made of plastic you're going to rip an aluminum air dam off the first bump you go over.

Mines made of plexiglass, and like the others say if you have one and its still over heating theres something else to look at. The air dam only helps cooling when the car is in motion.

Re: Custom Air Damp

I made one out of aluminum and it worked better. I did bend the first one but the trick is to angle it forward and make it on a hinge so when you hit something it will just hinge forward out of the way. You have to angle it forward so it will go that way when you bump something. A friend made one and he put a small piece of pipe on the bottom of his with a lip going more forward and his worked great. They do move more air but they do hit the ground more. They have to be hinged to last.

Hereīs a picture of my home made airdam:

Itīs made of high density foam. When it hits something it breaks to pieces and doesnīt damage my lower radiator support.

Itīs strong enough to not break or fold back at speed. I tested up to 130 mph and can confirm that itīll hold.

You can scrape over traffic bumps without shattering the piece to bits right away. Itīs a bit flexible.

The reason why I made it is that it covers the same area as the stock airdam but is not entirely as low (about 1/2" more ground clearance) which I need to enter and exit my garage. It scrapes when entering the garage but thatīs ok with me. I could cut another 1/4" off and it still scrapes so I leave it as it is.

Hereīs one I broke next to the new one I made to replace it
